Optimising a physician’s financial affairs when transitioning into retirement

2 May 2024

Mahoneys’ Partner Antony Harrison recently joined Angela Jeffrey, Scott Montefiore (William Buck), Chris Mariani (Medical and General Risk Solutions) and Arash Zamansani, and a room full of Fellows, to discuss strategies for “optimising a physician’s financial affairs when transitioning into retirement”.

The focus of this series of events – organised by The Professional Medical Practice (PMP) and The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) – is on providing investment, accounting, legal, and banking strategies specifically designed to meet the needs of medical professionals.

Specifically, Antony covered some of the important legal issues that need to be addressed – including preparing a practice for sale; business succession; finding a suitable buyer; structuring the sale; and how this might impact a physician’s estate planning.

A big thank you to the RACP, Tracey Handley (RACP) and Jordan Gardiner (PMP) for arranging this important event. A special thank you to Suzanne Stack and Hannah Parker (RACP) for their efforts in making the event a great success.

Mahoneys’ dedicated commercial team specialises in commercial, consumer and corporate law; commercial property; personal and corporate structuring; and estate and succession planning, with specific expertise on how each of those areas of law affects the medical, dental and allied health industries.

Feel free to contact Antony (who heads up Mahoneys’ medical practice group) if you have any questions about starting, owning, operating and selling a private practice.
